Styling
Styling
To style your pre-styled synthetic wig, we recommend you use your fingertips or a wig brush/comb to achieve your desired look. Do NOT use heat to style your pre-styled synthetic wig.
- For a fuller look, gently backcomb the hair using a brush or comb and then smooth the surface of the hair over.

Tape Application
Tape Application methods vary depending upon your individual wear, cleaning, and tape preference. Speak to a CARE Specialist today to discover the best possible adhesive option for you. Here are a few general guidelines for tape application:
- Remove the wig from your head and be sure the wig and your scalp are clean and free of oils and makeup.
- Your tape may be cut to fit your wig or hair system using small scissors.
- Peel off the proper side of the tape and apply to the desired areas of the wig base. After application, peel off the backings of the tape.
- Place the wig onto the scalp in the desired location before securing by pressing on taped areas.
Wig Removal
Removing your wig or hair system properly allows for proper care of your wig and scalp. Speak to a CARE Specialist today for questions about properly removing your wig. Here are a few key points:
- While wig is still attached to the scalp, pull the hair back into a ponytail or clip at the back from the hairline.
- Depending upon your adhesive or tape, use a removal product to create an easier removal process.
- Work the adhesive or tape portions of the wig with the removal product.
- When the adhesive or tape becomes loose, remove the wig from your head. DO NOT PULL OR STRETCH YOUR WIG BASE! Stretching and pulling of the wig base will cause damage.
- Peel the adhesive or tape off the base of the hair system. If the tape or adhesive will not simply peel off, ask a CARE Specialist for a product to soak your hair system to assist in adhesive removal.
- Ensure all adhesives and tapes have been removed before washing, storing, or apply your wig.
Surviving The Elements
Oxidation
Harmful UV Rays from the sun can cause the hair in your wig to turn orange or red in color, a process called oxidation. This gradual process occurs if you spend time outdoors and could affect the natural appearance of your hair system. Here are some preventative measures you can take to avoid oxidation:
- Many wig and hair replacement products contain UV protectors to help block most harmful rays and some even contain antioxidants to help neutralize the process entirely. Using these products doesn't mean oxidation will never be an issue, but they will help.
- Wear a cap or baseball hat while outside for an extended period of time.
Summer Heat
- A gel band is a small elastic band made of gel that fits around the hairline. They are originally designed to make wigs fit snugger, however gel bands can also help you stay cool in the hot months by allowing sweat to evaporate off your scalp.
- For the summer months try to think synthetic and shorter and you’ll stay a lot cooler. Consider a synthetic wig with a stretch cap for comfort and increased air circulation. Make sure to maintain your hair piece with frequent brushing using a wig brush and washing with the correct shampoo and conditioner. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way.
Travel
- Wash it before you leave to get that shine down and invest in special hair care products. These products are different from your regular shampoo/conditioner and can be filled into travel size bottles.
- It is tempting to stuff your wig into your suitcase when traveling, however this is dangerous and may lead to breakage. In order to not damage your wig, turn your it inside out, carefully curl up your wig and put in a hairnet. Now, put it in a zippable plastic bag. If you are not planning on wearing it during your travels, keep it in your carry on.
